Knit & Natter group’s poppy club crest

The Trust’s Knit & Natter group has now been running for almost a year and has been involved in various projects in and around the community.

Their latest undertaking has seen them create a Chesterfield FC crest, made entirely out of knitted poppies, which will be used in the Remembrance Day fixture against Accrington Stanley next Saturday.

Debbie Dance, who leads the group, said: “We do our own (personal) projects, but we also work on projects as a group.

“The two ladies who are making the crest are wonderful, I’m so proud of them.

“I just wanted to do a display in the cafe in the HUB, and now they’ve done this, it’s just blown me away. I came in and I cried when I first saw it.”

Susan Hilton-Turner and Emma Foster have taken on the task of creating the crest, which will be seen during the Remembrance Day commemorations at the SMH Group Stadium.

Susan said: “We got asked last year if we could do a few poppies for a display.

“I was sat looking at the club badge, thinking ‘how hard could it be?’ – now I’ve found out We’ll be proud of it.”

On the group’s importance to the community and those who attend, Debbie added: “We’ve done so much that means something to the rest of the community.

“It’s not just knitting, it’s not just nattering, it’s not just bits of wool and sticking and cutting.

“We try to do meaningful things and I think this one has blown us all away.”
