The head of women’s football at the club, Jon Pepper, has outlined his role at the club.
Pepper, who is in charge of the new programmes for women and girls, explained: “I am trying to develop the programme right through from the women’s first team all the way down to the academy level.
“I’m really excited about what we can do, I think there’s lots we can achieve and we’re all looking forward to seeing this project develop.”
The Lionesses recently won the Women’s Euros, highlighting the importance and improvement in the women’s game, both nationally and internationally.
Pepper believes the Spireites must capitalise on this opportunity to increase participation within women’s football.
“It’s fantastic what happened, it’s inspirational for the girls. They can see their heroes on the TV and in the stadiums, when in the past it’s been very male dominated,” John said.
“We want to capitalise on this as a club, at the moment we’re engaging with all the under 18s and trying to get more involved.”
He also expressed his delight at the Lionesses’ triumph, saying: “I’m incredibly proud of what the Lionesses did. I got a lump in my throat watching it.
“Everyone in the country got behind them and it was great to see. They play superb football and I’m so proud of what the club are doing to capitalise on this opportunity and help these girls get involved with football.
“Girls can now genuinely believe that football is a career path for them. They can look up to their idols that have just won the Euros and use it as inspiration. It’s absolutely fantastic.
“I would recommend anyone coming down to the club and getting involved, there’s so many open days and free session that you can come down to. Get in contact with us and we can help you out, there are opportunities for everyone.”
Pepper also pointed out that the Trust are looking for support to help sponsor different segments of the women’s project. “We’re also looking for various local businesses to try and support us with what we’re trying to do,” he said.
“Anyone interested can come through the marketing department at the club or they can come directly to me. Just pop me an email and I’m willing to speak and listen to anyone that can help us out.”
