Members of the Chesterfield FC academy staff took part in a fundraising climb up Mount Snowdon in Wales last week to raise money for Ashgate Hospice and the Community Trust.
The summit of Snowdon is 1,085m high (3,560ft) and all ten participants made it to the top in good time, completing their challenge.
Justin Tellus, the academy’s head of recruitment & development, spoke about the experience and explained why they took part in the challenge.
He said: “We did the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge last year and this year we really wanted to do something again.
“We wanted to raise some money for the Community Trust and Ashgate Hospice. It’s obviously a great thing socially but we wanted to raise some funds to donate.
“We travelled up on Friday and Saturday morning was great weather but it was very warm temperatures. It was tough but we got through it.
“It was great for everyone to get together and it made it really enjoyable socialising and having fun whilst doing something for a good cause too.”
Justin explained how tough a challenge it actually was. “To be honest the humidity and the heat made it really tough,” he said.
“It was extremely humid especially the further up we got. It would’ve been tough anyway but the weather definitely made it harder for sure.
“Although it was very enjoyable, it was extremely tough. I was moaning a bit on the way up but we all got through it.”
Finally, Justin stressed the importance of the funds raised. He said: “Ashgate Hospice touch the lives of so many people in the local area and beyond.
“We spoke as an academy and decided that Ashgate and the Community Trust were the two charities we wanted to raise money for.
“It’s a great cause and were so proud to be raising money for such a fantastic cause.
“They’re fantastic and for sure we picked two great charities to raise funds for.
“We’re already looking into another fundraiser next year; I think we’ll make this a yearly thing now.
“Anyone that wants to join us just get in contact, that includes staff at the club or even maybe some former players are more than welcome.
“It’s very easy to donate – head to the Community Trust website and it’s very easy to donate there.
“We’ve raised a fantastic amount and we really appreciate all the people that have donated and supported this event.
“I want to say a massive thank you to everyone that has took part and helped us along the way.
“It was fantastic and the money we have raised is also fantastic.”
