The Community Trust will be collecting unused Chesterfield FC shirts/scarfs/jumpers at the next home fixture, against FC Halifax Town on Saturday, March 25, for orphans in Ethiopia.
Kevin Morley, a keen Chesterfield fan, founded Saltergate Children’s Home in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, seven years ago.
Every year hundreds of children are abandoned or orphaned; when this happens, their prospects are bleak. There is no welfare support in war-torn Ethiopia and thousands of children are forced to be homeless.
Brampton-based Kevin managed the charity that currently cares for over 70 orphans, ranging from new-borns to 18-year-olds; they even keep in touch with those in their twenties that have moved to ensure they are on the right track.
Life changing is a phrase easily used these days but, in this case, it’s an understatement. Saltergate Children’s Home has saved the lives of countless children who have been tragically orphaned.
Kevin’s next visit to Ethiopia is in early June and he is keen to be able to pass on any Chesterfield FC clothing items that any Spireites supporters no longer wear – all sizes are needed.
Temesgen, pictured above, says: “We hear from Kevin all about Chesterfield and we’d all love to wear a club shirt to feel like a real team.”
The Community Trust will be doing a collection of Spireites shirts, scarves, jumpers, and anything Spireites related that new-borns to 18-year-olds could wear.
Items for donation can be dropped off at the HUB, from 10am to 2pm, before the Spireites take on FC Halifax Town.
The Trust will then donate all items collected to Saltergate Children’s Home in Ethiopia.
Supporters are urged to be generous with their donations, if they are able to help.
